Multi-Modal Multi-Parameter Focused Ultrasound for Neuromodulation (3MP-FUS)

The aim of the project is the further development and testing of a multi-modal, multi-parameter, platform-independent focused ultrasound system (3MP-FUS) for neuromodulation in dystonia and rare forms of Parkinson‘s disease. 3MP-FUS will be integrated with MRI and PET/MRI to target specific brain regions such as the Globus pallidus internus and the Nucleus Subthalamicus and modulate their function.

Using the potential of medical technology to improve quality of life
Flexible and cost-effective use of transcranial ultrasound stimulation (TUS) on different MRI platforms will be enabled by the envisioned 3MP-FUS system. Localite’s MR compatible neuronavigation solution plays a central role for the realization of the aspired workflows and needed transducer placement accuracy. The approach proposed here has the potential to significantly improve neuromodulation.
For brain research and novel therapy, the 3MP-FUS device will unlock applications comparable to, and extending beyond, those of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).
