Evaluation of neurosurgical interventions and optimal integration into the surgical workflow (CortexMap)

CortexMap

The aim of the project is to develop a new type of navigated transcranial magnetic stimulation system (nTMS system) for non-invasive pre- and post-surgical mapping of the motor cortex in patients with brain tumors. The new system aims to provide efficient use in neurosurgery and optimal integration into the surgical workflow.

Efficient planning and assessment

To achieve this, necessary hardware components and new software functionalities will be developed. An electromyography (EMG) device with 8 or 16 electrodes for measuring motor evoked potentials (MEP) will enable faster and more precise examinations. Functionalities for automatic adjustment of stimulation intensity and post-processing of MEPs will ensure accurate mapping of the motor cortex. New visualization and data analysis functions will also support surgeons in interpreting the data.

The intended system will allow more efficient patient monitoring before and after neurosurgical treatment using non-invasive and simple measurement techniques, ultimately benefiting patients.
